About the Walk

Where the Sky Becomes a Stage

Join Canton Nature Society for a magical spring evening at Zibiwés Nature Area as we search for one of Michigan's most captivating seasonal spectacles — the courtship display of the American Woodcock.

At dusk, male woodcocks emerge to perform their ancient sky dance: a series of loud "peent" calls from the ground, then a spiraling aerial display high above, before tumbling back to earth in a cascade of twittering wing feathers. It is one of nature's most enchanting performances.

We'll take a short, quiet walk following ethical birding practices that protect these birds during their most sensitive time of year. Families are warmly welcome. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Free & open to all. Canton Nature Society is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to connecting our community with the natural world.
